Citizens Wind Inspections is a site specifically designed to assist South Florida homeowners navigate the Windstorm Mitigation process as needed by insurance carriers.

Florida legislation requires insurance carriers writing windstorm coverage to offer discounts, credits or other rate reductions for certain construction features that lend in minimizing damage and/or loss due to windstorm activity.  These discounts, depending on carrier, range from 26-56 percent of the windstorm premium.

These construction features include:

• Age of structure
• Location of structure, referenceing the wind debris region map 
• Roof geometry or roof shape
• Roof to wall connection type
• Date of last roof install
• Roof: Florida Building Code compliance as specified by your carrier
• Presence of a secondary moisture barrier
• Roof decking material type
• Type, size and spacing of roof decking anchors
• Exterior wall construction type and reinforcement
• Foundation restraints
• Extent of wind borne debris protection
• Type of wind borne debris protection
• Verifying elevation photos (4)
  
  In order to receive these discounts, a Windstorm Mitigation Verification must be performed on your home, townhouse or villa.  Once your structure has been verified, the documentation is forwarded to your carrier's underwriting department and the appropriate discounts or credits are applied.
